ASIF ILYAS, MD, MBA, FACS

Foundation President

Dr. Ilyas is an Orthopaedic Surgeon at Rothman Orthopaedic Institute specializing in hand surgery & orthopaedic trauma surgery, who has long championed innovative pain management strategies to minimize patient opioid consumption and abuse. Prior to presiding over the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute Foundation for Opioid Research & Education, Dr. Ilyas served as the President of the Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society. In that capacity, he led the society’s effort to educate the public and policymakers statewide on evidenced-based pain management policies and strategies to lessen the burden of the “Opioid Epidemic” in the state.

 

In his role as a member of the leadership of Rothman Orthopaedics, Dr. Ilyas was charged with developing evidenced-based opioid-prescribing strategies for the practice’s providers as well as patient education. In addition, Dr. Ilyas is an award-winning researcher in the area of surgical pain management. Beyond his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Ilyas holds a busy teaching schedule as well serving as a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Fellowship Program Director at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University.

 

In his new role as President of Rothman Orthopaedics Institute’s Opioid Foundation, Dr. Ilyas looks to build on his broad experience in opioid-related education, research, and policy to tackle the “opioid epidemic” through education, advocacy, and research.
